News 2024, company initiates study process for future European sustainability regulation (CSRD): ‘Let’s live the future responsibly now’

A history made of territory in which commitment passes from generation to generation with foresight and passion. Also this year the Vicenzi Group renews its commitment to sustainable development with the publication of the fifth Sustainability Report, developed in collaboration with Life Cycle Engineering S.p.a., a company specializing in providing strategic solutions in the field of Sustainability. A document that analyzes the present and traces, publicly, the way forward in an international trajectory without forgetting family values and attention to the territory.

In preparation for the future Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which will be mandatory from 2026, this year’s Sustainability Report marks a significant step forward. The Vicenzi Group has embarked on a process of study and analysis of future reportingstandards to ensure full alignment with the directive within the timeframe required by the European Union.

Signing the opening letter of the Sustainability Report is Chairman Giuseppe Vicenzi: “Sustainability means living the future responsibly now. Continuity and looking to the future are the two cornerstones that trace a trajectory toward sustainable growth, attentive to new generations, to communities, and to the overall well-being of those who work and work together with our Group. We have made production processes more efficient by reducing waste and food waste, selecting certified raw materials, creating inclusive products, and reducing energy and water consumption. However, industrial efficiency has not changed the focus on craftsmanship.”

The Numbers of 2023

The identitỳ of the Vicenzi Group is embodied in its three main brands: Matilde Vicenzi, which specializes in fine Italian pastries and traditional products; Grisbì for moments of gluttonous pleasure; and Mr.Day with its margherita pasta snacks dedicated to the younger generation. 15 production lines in which nearly 400 employees are engaged for a widespread presence in the international market with exports to 97 countries worldwide, mainly the United States, the Middle East, Germany and Canada. Sustainable practices were also implemented in 2023 in international markets by creating a virtuous chain from raw material procurement to logistics and distribution services by involving foreign stakeholders. Initiatives included a packaging study that optimized packaging and reduced the amount of plastic.

Future products and projects

Also in 2023, the Vicenzi Group implements its strategic presence in markets and enhances the Italian pastry tradition while always keeping in mind the needs of consumers. Continuing to strive to maintain high standards of qualitỳ, sustainabilitỳ and inclusiveness̀ of products means investing in innovation and exploring new flavors and combinations. In fact, gluten-free and lactose-free products suitable for consumers with intolerances are flanked by Halal- and Kosher-certified products , and since 2023 the Group has expanded its range of inclusive products by launching the first completely vegan cookie in its line, Grisbì Vegan with Gianduia flavor.

Among its projects for a sustainable future, it continues its collaboration with “3Bee”, an Italian Clima- te-Tech Company that protects biodiversitỳ through the use of intelligent bee health monitoring and diagnostic systems . As part of these collaborations, Vicenzi has decided to take a further step of environmental responsibilitỳ with the creation, in 2024, of aBiodiversity Oasis: this is a long-term project that includes the planting of 50 fruit trees, a natural refuge for flora and fauna while saving about 2 tons of CO2.

Sustainability mission

The Vicenzi Group is committed to implementing with strategies and concrete actions its responsible management in a constant path of growth and improvement. This is why the Sustainability Report is a dynamic manifesto based on a Code of Ethics and guiding principles that guarantee the Group’s reliability and shared standards.

All three of the Group’s plants in San Giovanni Lupatoto, Bovolone and Nusco (AV) have obtained ISO 9001 certification, which guarantees a sustainable quality management system in addition to IFS (International Food Standard) certification on food safety, qualitỳ of processes and products. In addition, two production sites enjoy international BRC (Gobal Standard for Food Sefety Issue) recognition, which attests to production lines and food management respecting environmental resources and raw material quality.
